My educational journey to understand and live with Hashimoto's Disease

by Heidi Honchariw
Well into retirement, I made the decision to return to school and work towards a Doctorate and Ph.D. in Natural Medicine. But my quest really began in 1989, when I was 40. Unknown to me at that time, I was in the throes of Hashimoto’s Thyroid Disease, which is an autoimmune disease targeting and attacking the thyroid gland. Unfortunately, my condition was not properly diagnosed until 2003, and by then, my condition had worsened to the point that I was spending all my off-time on the couch or in bed, and feeling so helpless as my life slipped away from me.
